Programme of Events 2020

Landscape visit to Portsmouth

Due to the Covid-19 virus, 2020 was the year when activities were cancelled or postponed; where possible, virtual resources were made available and these can still be accessed below via the links. The only event to take place, after March, was the Archaeology Section's visit to Meonstoke on Wednesday 23rd September.

Local History Section, Annual Lecture given by Dr James Thomas, on 'Celebrating George III's Birthday: the Experience of Hampshire.'

21st March SATURDAY Local History Section, jointly with the Hampshire Archives Trust, Community Archive Forum - POSTPONED - the Forum will be rescheduled once the crisis is over. Please see the CAF webpage for supporting material.

Archaeology Section, the David Johnston Memorial Lecture has been CANCELLED, due to issues related to current Coronavirus (Covid-19); a webpage has been set up to allow visitors to read articles in Proceedings which are related to Silchester.
4th Aprils SATURDAY Historic Buildings, the morning visit to Whitchurch Silk Mill has been POSTPONED. It is hoped that a visit will be possible later in the year once the current health crisis has eased.
23rd April THURSDAY HFC&AS OGS Crawford Lecture, Professor Roger Leech,           ‘Archaeology on the maps of Ordnance Survey’, has been POSTPONED

HFC&AS Annual General Meeting, 7.30 pm Hampshire Record Office, Winchester, SO23 8TH. POSTPONED
The AGM was to be followed by the 'President's Lecture', from Jo Loosemore on ‘Mayflower 400: Legend and Legacy’; follow the link to see a number of resources on this major anniversary.
14th June SUNDAY Landscape Section, half-day visit to Basingstoke to look at medieval and post medieval buildings of the old town centre and St. Michael’s Church. POSTPONED

23rd September WEDNESDAY Archaeology Section, Meonstoke Roman Temple Excavation Visit
with tour by Tony King. Two groups of six members were able to get an in-person account of the excavations.
